THEY DON'T UNDERSTAND WHAT IT'S LIKE TO BE A STROKE SURVIVOR BECAUSE THEY CAN'T

As the founder of  Second Chance Stroke and Brain Injury Survivors, I have had the privilege of talking with 100's of stroke survivors from around the globe.

Often I encounter the stroke survivor that is really a victim of stroke mindset not a grateful survivor.
Why do I say that? They are not to their core grateful to be alive.
The stroke victim mindset is constantly looking back at what they lost versus looking forward to what they have. Their life! To still get to see the ones they love.

They say, loved ones are expecting way too much out of me as a survivor.
They complain "they don't understand me!".

My stroke peeps, they don't understand what we as stroke survivors go through because there's no way they can.

The only one that can understand us stroke survivors and the extreme daily struggles we face is another stroke survivor!
ONLY!

For them with no brain damage our problems look simple!

The one I hear over and over again from my family is "If you'd just pay attention"

Usually I over react to this comment because I get so frustrated with the way I am and because they don't understand I am trying my best to pay attention.

THEY DON'T UNDERSTAND BECAUSE THEY CAN NEVER KNOW WHAT IT'S LIKE TO BE A STROKE SURVIVOR! NEVER! THEY NEVER WILL FULLY UNDERSTAND YOU.

All stroke survivors need to realize this fact and quit taking their comments so personally.

It is us stroke survivors that need to be more understanding of this fact.
NON STROKE FOLKS  DON'T UNDERSTAND OUR STRUGGLES AND NEVER WILL BECAUSE THEY THEMSELVES HAVEN'T GONE THROUGH STROKE SURVIVAL.

Only another stroke survivor can truly and deeply understand your struggles because they walk in your shoes!

So lean on your stroke survivor brother and sisters for understanding, compassion and support. Together we are made strong.

Cut your non stroke peeps some slack, patients love and forgiveness.
